Maximizing Your Website Traffic With SEO

You have your website built and ready to go, with all of your products listed and your blog running, so why aren’t you getting any traffic? Seldom is there an entrepreneur who hits the ground knowing how to bring traffic to a website, so don’t let it get you down that you’re not able to generate any traffic just yet.

It’s time to introduce yourself to search engine optimization, also known as SEO. What you’re going to learn here is what SEO is, and the several ways you can implement it into your website and any other part of your business’s web campaign.

What Is SEO?

SEO is the process by which businesses optimize their websites for search engines. In layman’s terms, it is how business owners get search engines to recognize and trust their websites, bringing them higher and higher on the search engine’s lists, therefore generating more traffic, more leads, and more sales.

How Does It Work?

SEO actually works in a few different ways, but the two primary ways are listed and explained below.

1.      Keywords/Key Phrases: What words and phrases do you plug into your search engine when you’re looking for something? Those are called your keywords and key phrases. What you’ll need to do for your website is go to Google’s keyword tool, and type in the keywords and phrases that you assume people will type in when looking for the type of information that your websites are delivering. What the keyword tool will tell you is what the actual keywords people are typing in, and how many people are searching for that information monthly, on both a global and local scale. Take the keywords you find, and implement them into 1-2% of the content on each one of your web pages and blog posts.

2.      Backlinking; When another website links to your business’s website, it’s called backlinking. Search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo recognize sites that have more backlinks as being more noted and therefore trustworthy. You want other sites to link to yours. How do you do it? There’s a number of ways, but what it really boils down to is networking with the right people. While you’re out there getting customers, you also want to be attracting the attention of noteworthy bloggers in your niche. When they’re looking for a business or product to review, be sure to step up and let them know you exist and what you have to offer. They in turn will backlink to your site in a review, not only sending their own readers your way but also upping your ranks in the search engines. You can also link from one of your websites pages to another one, and each of your blog posts should link to another one as well.

Search Engine Optimization should be one of your primary and most consistent processes whenever you’re developing any content related to your business on the web. It doesn’t matter is it is page content, a blog post, or even a guest blog post, you’ll always want to incorporate SEO into what you do so search engines notice you and your business at work.
